Spiderman 3 ***/5

We've all got choices. It is these choices that make up who we are.

The story in brief:
Spidey was on top of the world, having being the town hero as well as her beau MJ's love interest. Nothing can be even better. Alas, it was the sense of achievement that makes him to be so full of himself that he began to neglect his love ones. Meanwhile, a black living organism a.k.a. Venom landed on Earth via a comet and finds itself in the domain of our hero. Also a convict (he fell into a radioactive experimental pit and mutated into Sandman) who was responsible for the death of Peter Parker's uncle broke out of jail so as to get money to have his terminally ill daughter treated. Not forgetting the New Goblin, who succeeded his late father's legacy in going against Spiderman.

Soon, Venom started to 'consume' Spiderman until he unleashes his dark side with almost unlimited prowess. However MJ leaves him and all the unfortunate incidents made him realise that he must break free from Venom. The parasitic Venom manages to find another host who happened to be Peter's rival at work. The villains soon paired up to give Spiderman a hell of a time.

The verdict:
Generally this sequel follows the typical Marvel comics theme as the story unfolds. Its the usual action-packed wham and bangs. A definite entertaining 140 min for guys. However the part that I personally find most exciting (and even heart-warming) is when the New Goblin actually teamed up with Spidey to fight the villains in a bid to save their common beau, MJ. Well at least in this sequel, Spidey wasn't fighting alone after all.

However on the ending, I was somehow a little let down by the fact that the Sandman got away so easily after having gotten the forgiveness from Spiderman. Don't be surprised to see the Sandman again in Spiderman 4. Who knows, he may be fighting alongside with Spiderman?

I especially like the 'words of wisdom' from this sequel - 'We've all got choices. It is these choices that make up who we are.' How true. It is like we decide whether we want to wake up and face the world in a happy frame of mind or pull our faces. No doubt situations may be beyond our control, but it is up to us to make good out of it and not to so call 'resigned ourselves to fate'.

So, have you been the 'Master of your own destiny'? ;p
