Where is Mas Selamat?

Pedra Branca... Singapore F1 Grand Prix... Punggol Waterfront Living... Rising food and oil prices... NDP 2008... Youth Olympics 2010... EPL Cup... Seat-belts for kids... Whose mind is still thinking about Mas Selamat?

Our Head of MHA? Maybe. But I think he got to settle the toilet grille problem first. Issue tender to contractors, choose the cheapest among the quotes, choosing materials, getting renovation permits etc... boy, he really is a busy man. -_-" Okay, let's give him a break.

It's a common sight to 'see' Mas Selemat these days. On posters which have turned yellow, tattered ones found on the exit doors of public buses... you name it. It's such a part and parcel of our daily lives that we seemed to have taken his presence for granted. We sort of accepted him as a poor fellow Singaporean who has his portrait pasted all over the island and even have lots of photoshop editing done to his portrait without his consent.

No, I'm not feeling sympathetic towards him. Just feel that Singaporeans are slipping back to their usual (complacent) mentality. Just how many people are still keeping his portrait in their mobile phones or as their wallpaper? There isn't much follow-up these days about him. Nobody seems to care anymore since there are more pressing issues to divert our attention to (such as the $5M TOTO jackpot!)

So is Mas Selamat ever going to be caught? Or will he be another elusive Osama bin Laden? The real question is - does anybody really care?
