Man vs Felines. Alas!

道高一尺,魔高一丈

This basically sums up our effort in making our home more baby-safe / cat-proof against Copper and Marvel.

Firstly, we placed spiky mats outside the bedroom doors to keep them away so that they would not go near the door when we're asleep and singing O Holy Night. Alas, Copper had no qualms prodding onto the spikes just to be close to us. Of course, the late night symphony by Marvel de souza would follow suit too.

Secondly, we bought baby gates to be put up at the bedroom corridor so as to prevent the cats from going near. We thought that the cats would only jump if there is a stable base for them to rest after leaping. Alas, even before I pulled out the gate from the box, Copper leaped over the box effortlessly, as if in a showmanship display of contempt for my weapons of 'mess' destruction. The gate is still put up though. Marvel could even do a pull up on the gate using his fore legs and then climb over as if he is negotiating SAF's low wall in the SOC.

Thirdly, I got a hand-me down IKEA gate from a colleague. It fits in nicely at Boy Boy's bedroom door and seems like a sturdy deterrent to the felines. Alas, Marvel, who has managed to slim down faster through wet food meals than going to Jean Yip, slipped right through the narrow vertical bars of the gate. As for Copper, all he needs to do is to do another leap of contempt. Occasionally, Marvel would also practise his pull-ups on this 2nd gate.

Lastly, my wife bought plastic boards from Popular that we would attached it to the 1st gate so as to make the gate looked taller and impossible for the 2 boys to jump. As she was fixing it up, Marvel was staring at the whole procedure with full contempt and skepticism. As for Copper, he was just observing silently at a corner, studying every inch of this new embattlement. Alas, Marvel managed to do a miraculous leap over the taller gate while Copper managed to jump, and using his body crash through the board (the board is flexible).

ALAS.

What can we do? Now I'm even toying with the idea of adding the spikes to the side and top of the gate as well as on our bedroom doors, making it a fortified embattlement against any unwanted feline invasion. But it'll be damn cartoon when the confinement lady or any guests come to our abode. They'll most probably be wondering who are the real owners of the house. :p

Haiyah... 坏蛋猫. Boy Boy! Quick come help Daddy and Mummy! ;p
