Get Smart ****/5

Steve Carell isn't that irritating afterall.

Nope, this is not my first movie in 2008. Just that I've been renting movies from videoezy and thus have been watching movies later than the general public. However, 'Get Smart' is the latest movie that I caught on the big screen.

The story in brief:

Steve Carell plays the role of Max who is works for an FBI-alike organisation. However his duties are the boring desk-bound types and not those exciting field agents who are risking their lives out there. Finally Max gets the chance to prove himself as agent-worthy when the evil Chaos network uncovered most of the agents' identities and thereby killing them too.

Max needs to go out there, with his partner Agent 99 (Anna Hathaway) to nab Chaos members as well as to foil their plans of bombing a concert hall where the US President will be present. Their adventures take them from the USA to Russia. However their mission is not an easy one as there is a double-agent amongst them...

The verdict:
Casting aside my prejudices formed from watching The Office, Steve Carell still plays an irritant but in this movie, but there is still some kind of seriousness in his character with regards to what he must do (to save the world). Thus on the whole, I wasn't too irritated by him. In fact it was quite entertaining to see him bickering with Anna Hathaway.

Story plot wise, it is rather predictable. However it is the jokes that manage to keep the movie alive and well, sustainable for the whole duration. Nonetheless, this movie portrays Steve Carell in a different light - as a hero in the show. It's James Bond with the comedy factor.
