PB - Performance Bonus. A 'despicable' and manipulative tool devised by the Government to shape the motivation of his servants. If you exceed the job expectations which the employers have set, you'll get the cash. However, no promises as to how fat the cash will be.
I asked a colleague who has been in this line for 16 years,"Aren't you disillusioned by all these 'extra' non-teaching duties that has refuted the very reason for joining this profession?" The answer,"If not, then we will not get our PB, brudder!"
So are we all slogging just for the sake of that extra month or two worth of salary, even though it means doing less of what we are supposed to do and doing more of what that isn't really in line with our job scope (and possibly aspirations)?
Just what would be your choice, 12 months of solid teaching and earn no PB, or 12 months of part-time teaching and loads of headache and hell from non-teaching tasks but having the (half a month to two months' worth) PB waiting for you down the line? (Mind you, there isn't a quantifiable gauge as to how much work equals how fat the PB can be). Is it all worth it? Can your conscience allow this (knowing that your 40 charges are still depending on you)?I know I have been whining about part-time teaching ever since this blog was started. There is no end to this issue. The only solution is to compromise if not, exit. If you can't beat them, join them. Else it would just be another day of a losing battle which doesn't really add much to the quality of life.
So right now, how far (or near) are you away from your fat PB? Are you happy with the way things are going? Can you do something about it then?
