In Public = No Personal Space

What exactly is personal space? Does it exist when you're in public?

You get out of your house, walk past people, travel on the same transportation vehicle as the complete strangers around you. That is, you're in public - a place where everyone shares the space with you.

What if the bus or train is crowded? These strangers and you become so 'huddled up' together that you both can feel each others' breath and heartbeat. How intimate. To make things more cosy, someone have to share his love for trashy loud music on his cell phone with the rest of the people on board. Others prefer to share their daily vibes and jibes not just with the other person at the end of her cell phone line, but with those around her as well. Talk about sharing woes and weals.

Yes. How many of us feel so irritated and frustrated when these things happen, especially when you are feeling tired? Do personal spaces exist when you are in public? Do we have the right to exert our basic human rights of personal spaces?

Even if the answer is negative, does that oblige us to exert and express our thoughts and actions to the rest of the world when in public? Just what makes one think that his choice of music is cool, or that her worries and complaints are so important that probably the MP should drop everything and go rescue her?

Although the above may sound exaggerating, doesn't it make you wonder why there are people who are simply living in their own world? Just what and where had gone wrong? Is this the way we want to build our society?
