Come, come, come...

Some call it the beckoning cat, while most of us know it by the name Fortune Cat. In mandarin, it actually means Beckoning Fortune Cat. It is a common sight in any of Singapore's retail point (even in coffeeshops too).

As the name goes, this kitty is supposed to lure or guide money to flow into the shop's owner. Its hand can move up and down, performing a beckoning gesture. Sometimes I wonder if it is some ancient voodoo from Japan that has the ability to cast a spell on passer-bys to make them want to enter a shop to spend money (and if you've noticed, the cat isn't smiling at all) .

It may sound silly but just think about it. There must be some reason why this object is around. The thought sure do sounds scary to me.
