Greater Calling?

I just couldn't fathom why anyone would want to run for presumably the most coveted top job of the world - the Presidency of the United States of America. As if all other jobs aren't stressful or well paid enough.

Looking at how rigorous and arduous the process of the election campaign, from the preliminary party nominations to the final national polling exercise, the candidates really has to put in lots of effort and they must have mental, physical and financial stamina to hold out till the last minute (and this doesn't mean once he's in the White House, things will look any rosy), scandalous (Did anybody cry Anwar?).

Its just too much effort to fight for this job. Moreover, it is not an easy job.It is a top job with almost unprecedented international powers. But is the vast amount of power really that enticing that an individual dares swear to pledge part of his lifetime (okay, maybe its a max of 8 years) to risk his life and reputation to do a job that its 101% not possible to satisfy the whole world.

Greater calling? Think that would be an underestimate. Divine calling, maybe? Anyway, I just find it hard to empathise with people vying for this top job.

So, Obama or McCain? I find it hard to convince myself that majority of the citizens of mighty America would possibly mandate a non-white to sit in the White House. A pity that Hillary ain't his running mate. Anyway, I am rather sick of the Republicans. Time for the Democrats to come in and hopefully undo some mess.
