With so much hype and publicity of the Beijing Olympics, did anybody realise it was Singapore's National Day?Did you spend your 8th Aug evening, glued to the live telecast of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics? Or were you watching what Lee Hsien Loong or Wong Kan Seng on their National Day speech? Were you humming to the tunes of "... the more we're together, the happier we'll be..." on the McDonald's advert or crooning softly "... we're Singapore, this is our song..."
I'm sure watching an exclusive summary of the 5000 years of Chinese History on the Beijing Olympics opening is a more attractive option then the National Day Speech. Looking at the scale and "wow" factor of the Olympics opening, our NDP fades in comparison.
With the increasing presence of Chinese nationals and the decreased incidence of our National flag flying on the parapets of HDB flats, it is no wonder most of us do not realise that we have actually celebrated our nation's 43rd birthday.
Celebrating the Singapore Spirit? Hmmm... I just don't like the 5 dark figures throwing up stars on the NDP '08 logo. The 5 colourful pandas seems cuter. -_-"
